The Carter Family, A. P., Sara, and Maybelle, along with other members including the Carter Sisters, Maybelle's children, formed one of the early roots groups; combining the songs and instruments so familiar to the people of the Southern Appalachians, they were among the first to be recorded at the famous Bristol Sessions. Their beginnings were in Richmond, VA, on WNRL radio. From there, they moved to WNOX in Knoxville, TN, and were joined by the legendary musician and recording artist/producer, Chet Atkins.
