Sister Rosetta Tharpe (March 20, 1915 – October 9, 1973) was an American singer, songwriter, guitarist and recording artist. A pioneer of twentieth-century music.
Sister Rosetta Tharpe died in 1973, at the age of fifty-eight and was buried in an unmarked grave outside of Philadelphia.
Although Tharpe was known for her sacred recordings, she did record secular works. "This Train" played a large part in the early development of Rock and Roll and was dubbed "Godmother of Rock and roll". (Gale Wald)
