This is Peg Leg Sam Jackson, harmonica player, comedian and singer from Jonesville, South Carolina. He busked and he traveled the South with medicine shows, providing the entertainment that snake oil salesmen used to entice customers.
Peg Leg Sam also performed at the National Folk Festival in Wolf Trap, in 1975. You can hear him sing “Froggy Went a Courtin’” on this week’s show.
